cone springs and coil springs
Firstly, Huddersfield spares has nothing to do with the real Minispares Centre set up 30 years ago and none of their parts are similar. Minispares and keith Calver done lots ot testing on the coil springs and Minispares would not put their name to them as a road going item. They might be fine in the hands of a pro suspension tuner but unless the car sits fairly high the coil springs have a possibility of unseating and breaking. there is nothing holding them in place and the Japanese have made them a conical shape to help overcome this tipping action of the spring. Many customers in countries with rough roads have this problem and it is nothing to do with the spring strength and quality. there are however quite a few USA citizens using them with success on the long straight or even roads they have. There are lots of Canadian Mini owners to ask in the clubs and this would be your best bet, or try Mini Mania web site for info

For a road car, Id say rubber every time. Ive never heard anything good about coil springs from someone who wasnt trying to sell me some.

coil spring conversion vs cones
I am interested in these coil conversion kits... http://www.minispares.com/Product.aspx?pid=36782 I would like to know how the car handles and what the ride is like on these compared to the standard cones. The main reason is I assume these do not sag or loose their performance over time like the cones. Ta.

One thing is very strange. If you buy this spring by www.sracer.com, you will pay for spring + integrated Hi/Lo + Upper A Arm Rebound Bumper - 550 dollars plus shiping which is almost equal to 280 pounds. Does anybody can tell me why minispares rised the price so much?? Best regards Witek

Im thinking about replacing rubber cones with Blue springs. I use the mini for normal road use only but find that the ride is extremely harsh on local country lanes (even though I have recently completely renewed the standard suspension all round). Has anyone out there tried this conversion and if so what were the results like? The coil springs are a bit pricey so I dont want to waste money on something thats no good. Thanks

Suspension - coil springs
Hi, 1) is it advisable to use coil springs as suspension for normal road use (not coil over springs but these are direct replacements for my rubber cones)? 2) If the answer for point #1 is yes, is it okay just to convert my back rubber cone suspension to coil springs? Thanks in advance. Cheers! Gary.

Coil springs
My mini is using the coil springs at the moment coupled with standard absorbers(oil). From my experience using them, the coil springs have a very comfy ride and very much suitable for daily drive but during high speed, the car tends to wallow a bit but i suspect this is due to the standard abs set up. Im planning to upgrade the abs to the adjustable gas type soon... and this should correct the high speed problem... Cheers...

Coil spring / rubber cone suspension conversions
Hi, I have a sports pack mini and was hoping someone might have some experience with coil spring conversions. As the sports pack has the Koni dampers, would a coil spring / rubber cone conversion be a good mod? also, what about the coil over damper conversion?

Hi, I have never driven a mini with this type of set-up but listening to what people who have say the transform is very good and more like a modern car...

Coil spring conversion kit ?
Hello,
I'm just about to buy blue coil springs, while my new rubber cones looks like pancakes after 6 montks of usage. I've read though, that they "can move when driven over rough roads". Is it realy so? Can they be safely used on road? Does anybody have any experience on this? Please help if you can :)

According to the above, after all i've read, the general conclusion on this subject is, that I should stick to ruuber cones rather than replace them with coil springs or coilovers.
My problem is different however, while after buying new Dunlop rubber cones, they were useless after a month. Now the car have no suspention at all, I mean the upper arms stick to the frame even if there is no one in the car.
Which springs should I choose then?

"The biggest improvements that can be made to a Mini is to replace the rubber cone springs with coil springs! The springs can be fitted to either the stock trumpets or Hi-Los. The highest quality progressive winding is used to insure that the springs will not sag after many years of use, unlike the rubber cones. Available in two spring rates: soft (Blue) and firm (Red). "

Seems no one has ever fitted these...! From what I have read there is no definitive answer to whether they are better or worse, so anybody thing of the conversion should stick with the rubber cones and replace them every five years or so
